10/14/04-A bill that would have made it illegal for any driver under 18 years to use a cell phone while driving is dead.
SB1582, sponsored by Sen. Debra Bowen, D-Redondo Beach, remained in the Assembly Transportation Committee when the session ended August 28. It previously passed the Senate by a 24-11 vote on May 25.
2/20/04-Drivers passing through California may soon face one less highway hazard – in this case, teens behind the wheel using cell phones.
SB1582, introduced by Sen. Debra Bowen, D-Redondo Beach, would make it illegal for any driver under 18 years of age to use a cell phone while driving. The bill would allow an exception for emergency calls.
