4/1/04-A bill before the Senate Transportation Committee would increase the state’s fuel tax by 10 cents a gallon.
SB1614, introduced by Sen. Tom Torlakson, D-Antioch, would require 9 cents of the tax on each gallon be used to maintain, operate, improve or construct state highways and local streets. One cent on each gallon would be used to finance environmental programs that are designed to mitigate the impact of motor vehicle on air quality.
