1/20/04-State lawmakers plan to move ahead with a bill similar to AB575. That bill would have required some California trucks – especially those that carry hazmat loads – to carry a device to enable police or carriers to stop the vehicles while in motion.
The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman John Dutra, chair of the Assembly Committee on Transportation, had drawn considerable opposition from trucking interests last year. Assembly officials are working with trucking interests and others on a new bill now.
