6/21/04-A bill that would have authorized drivers to anonymously report the license plate number of a vehicle observed emitting visible emissions from its exhaust pipe has died.
S1836, sponsored by Sen. Victor Crist, R-Tampa, remained in the Senate Committee on Natural Resources when the session ended April 30, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill called for setting up a telephone hotline for callers to contact the Department of Environmental Protection to make the reports. It would have also required DEP to keep records and report repeat offenders to local police.
