OOIDA Call to Action - Georgia Members
February 3, 2003

Attention: Georgia truckers! You need to contact members of the state Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee about a new measure that would slow large trucks down on most highways in the state.

SB462 would restrict big rigs to 55 mph on all highways. Under current state law, all vehicles are permitted to travel 70 mph on rural interstates, 65 mph outside urban areas and 55 mph within urban areas, such as Atlanta.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. David Adelman, D-Atlanta, reportedly was introduced in response to an accident in December 2002 that killed a college student when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a smaller vehicle driven by the student as they approached slowed interstate traffic.

It is vital you contact the committee members to let them know the importance of maintaining uniform speeds for road safety.

For contact information, visit www.legis.state.ga.us/cgi-bin/gl_org_detail.pl?Com=gaspubs, or call OOIDA's Membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they'll look it up.
