6/21/04-A bill that would forbid drivers from watching television while behind the wheel has died.
SB623, sponsored by Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, was in the Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee when the session ended April 7, effectively killing it for the year.
Under existing state law, it is not unlawful for a television or other means of receiving a television broadcast to be located where the driver can see it while driving.
The bill would have prohibited a video screen displaying moving pictures from being located in a motor vehicle where the driver can see it while driving.
It wouldn’t have applied to factory-installed equipment that displays vehicle information, geographic location or route information.
