4/14/04-A resolution calling for assembling a study commission to examine a proposal – SB462 – to create split speeds on most highways in the state and see whether there were any possible compromises such as designated times when tractor-trailers have to slow down or special lanes where trucks can drive the same speed as other vehicles has died.
The proposal – SR669 – introduced by Sen. David Adelman, D-Atlanta, passed the Senate but failed to gain final approval from the House before lawmakers adjourned for the year.

3/4/04-The Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee approved a resolution that calls for a study commission to be created to examine a proposal before the Assembly to create split speeds on most highways in the state.
Under SR669, sponsored by Sen. David Adelman, D-Atlanta, a Joint Study Committee on Truck and Highway Safety would see if there are any possible compromises to a split speed bill – also sponsored by Adelman – such as designated times when tractor-trailers have to slow down or special lanes where trucks can drive the same speed as other vehicles.
The commission would be comprised of five members of the Senate to be appointed by the Senate Committee on Assignments and five members of the House to be appointed by the House Speaker.
