Legislative Watch

Hawaii

5/3/04-Lawmakers shot down a proposal to allow counties to operate traffic enforcement cameras to catch red-light runners and speeders.
Legislators failed to beat the April 29 deadline for House-Senate conference committees to reach agreement on bills passed in different versions in each chamber.
SB2344 would have required the cameras to take a photograph of the driver as well as the vehicle.

4/26/04-A House-Senate conference committee is scheduled to take up discussion April 28 on a bill that would bring back traffic enforcement cameras to catch speeders and red-light runners.
SB2344, sponsored by Sen. Melodie Aduja, D-District 23, would authorize the counties to use fixed cameras at intersections and along state and county roads.
The new proposal would require the cameras to take a photograph of the driver as well as the vehicle.
