OOIDA Call to Action - Iowa Members
January 30, 2004

Heads up, Iowa truckers! You need to contact members of the state Senate Transportation Committee about dueling bills - one raising Iowa's speed limit for all vehicles and one lowering the speed limit for big rigs.

A bill - SF2033 - introduced by Sen. Steve Kettering would push the speed limit for all vehicles on the state's four-lane expressways from 65 mph to 70 mph and from 55 mph to 60 mph on all other primary highways.

Sen. Maggie Tinsman, on the other hand, has introduced a measure that targets truck speeds. SF2035 would lower the maximum allowable expressway speed from 65 mph to 55 mph for vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 10,000 pounds.

Both bills are under consideration in the Senate Transportation Committee.

It is vital you contact the committee members to let them know the importance of uniform speeds to road safety.

For contact information, visit www3.legis.state.ia.us/ga/committee.do?id=14, or call OOIDA's Membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they'll look it up.
