OOIDA Call to Action - Illinois Members
April 28, 2004

Heads up, Illinois truckers! You need to contact your state representative about a proposal before the full House to eliminate the state's split speed limit. If approved, it would head to Gov. RodBlagojevich.

SB2374would eliminate provisions in Illinois law that set up a slower speed for vehicles over 8,000 pounds.

Currently, those vehicles are required to travel 10 mph below the 65 mph limit for other vehicles. Under the new bill, all vehicles would face a 65 mph speed limit.

The bill, which previously passed the Senate, cleared the House Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee April 28 by a 13-4 vote. It now moves to the House floor.

It is vital you contact your representative and let him/her know the importance of uniform speeds to road safety.
