OOIDA Information Update – Illinois Members
May 13, 2004

A proposal awaiting a final vote on the floor of the Illinois House would eliminate the state’s split speed limit. If approved, it would head to Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

With lawmakers scheduled to adjourn for the year May 21, it is important that you take the time to contact your state representative and them him/her know how important the uniform speed limit issue is to you.

SB2374 would eliminate provisions in Illinois law that set up a slower speed for vehicles over 8,000 pounds.

Currently, those vehicles are required to travel 10 mph below the 65 mph limit for other vehicles. Under the new bill, all vehicles would face a 65 mph speed limit.

The bill, which previously passed the Senate, cleared the House Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee April 28. It has since been awaiting final consideration before the full House.
