6/17/04-A bill to reduce the Commercial Distribution Fee is awaiting final approval from the Senate before heading to Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who is expected to sign it.
SB1936, sponsored by Sen. George Shadid, D-Pekin, would reduce the current 36 percent surcharge on registration rates for trucks in the state to 21.5 percent next year, and then to 14.35 percent in 2006. The bill would also restore some parts of the state’s rolling stock exemption back to their levels before the current surcharge amount was enacted.
The bill, which previously passed the Senate, has been sent back to the chamber for approval of House changes regarding registration fees.
