7/22/04-Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a bill into law July 21 that makes bribing a state official to obtain a driver’s license a felony.
The new law, previously SB2167, will take effect Jan. 1, 2005.
It not only outlaws bribing state officials, it also makes it a felony to bribe officials at truck driving schools or any other driving instructor. Any person convicted of offering a bribe for a license would be barred from holding a license for 120 days, and face three to seven years in jail and a $25,000 fine.

5/21/04-The General Assembly has approved a bill that would make bribing a state official to obtain a driver’s license a felony.
The bill has been forwarded to Gov. Rod Blagojevich. It passed the Senate and House by unanimous votes.
SB2167, sponsored by Sen. Patrick Welch, D-Peru, also makes it a felony to bribe officials of truck driving schools or any other driving instructor.
Under the proposal, any person convicted of offering a bribe for a license would be barred from holding a license for 120 days, and face three to seven years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
