3/24/04-Gov. Joe Kernan signed SB19 March 16 permitting heavier loads on certain northeast Indiana roads.
Under the new law, which took effect immediately, the allowed total weight of trucks increases from 80,000 pounds to 134,000 pounds by designating parts of U.S. 30, Indiana 9 and U.S. 6 as extra-heavy-duty highways. Indiana already permits the heavier loads on 17 other highways throughout the state.

3/17/04-The House and Senate gave final approval earlier this month to a bill that would permit heavier loads on certain northeast Indiana roads. The bill now heads to Gov. Joe Kernan.
Final approval came after a conference committee made up of legislators from both chambers agreed to erase a previous House amendment to the bill that called for permitting the state to sell bonds for highway construction and pay them off using federal transportation dollars.
Under SB19, sponsored by Sen. Charles “Bud” Meeks, R-Leo, the allowed total weight of trucks would increase from 80,000 pounds to 134,000 pounds by designating parts of U.S. 30, Indiana 9 and U.S. 6 as extra-heavy-duty highways.
