OOIDA Call to Action - Louisiana Members
March 23, 2004

Attention: Louisiana truckers! You need to contact members of the state House Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee about a proposal that would lower the speed limit for large trucks by 5 mph on highways in the state.

Under the proposal, trucks would be restricted to 65 mph on interstate highways and 60 mph on divided multilane highways. All other vehicles would be allowed to continue to travel at the current posted limit.

HB546, sponsored by Rep. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, was filed earlier this month and forwarded to the committee. State lawmakers will likely consider the proposal once they meet in Baton Rouge March 29 for the start of the legislative session, which runs until late June.

It is vital you contact the committee members to let them know the importance of maintaining uniform speeds for road safety.

For contact information, visit www.legis.state.la.us and click on the member’s name. You can also call OOIDA’s Membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they’ll look it up.
