5/4/04-Rep. Dale Erdey, R-Livingston, has withdrawn his proposal that would require 18-wheelers to travel only in the right lane when riding on six-lane highways in the state.
During an April 27 meeting of the House Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee, Erdey asked the panel to take not action on HB670. Instead, he requested they study the problem of truck traffic on highways between this year and the start of next year’s session.
The bill called for violators of the lane restriction to be fined up to $175, up to 30 days in jail, or both. Repeat offenders could face a fine up to $500, up to 90 days in jail, or both.
It would have permitted trucks to pass another vehicle traveling in the right lane.
