7/7/04-A resolution to mandate the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility of increasing the speed limit on two-lane rural roads above the current 55 mph limit has been forwarded to the secretary of state.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 27, which passed the House and Senate, calls on LaDOTD to conduct the study, check on similar speed limits for two-lane roads in other states and submit a written report to the Legislature before its 2006 regular session.
6/14/04-The House voted 13-0 June 7 to approve a resolution to mandate the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility of increasing the speed limit on two-lane rural roads above the current 55 mph limit.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 27, which passed the Senate by a 38-0 vote April 15, now heads to Gov. Kathleen Blanco.
The measure, sponsored by Sen. Joe McPherson, D-Woodworth, calls on the agency to conduct the study, check on similar speed limits for two-lane roads in other states and submit a written report to the Legislature before its 2006 regular session.
