Missouri

5/17/04-A bill that included a provision requiring photos and unmasked faces on all Missouri’s driver’s licenses has died.
SB1144 was awaiting a final vote before the full House when the session ended May 14, effectively killing it for the year.

4/13/04-SB1144 includes a provision that would require photos and unmasked faces on all Missouri driver’s licenses.
The Show-Me State currently issues licenses without photos of drivers who object on religious grounds to having their images displayed.
The proposal contains a blanket prohibition against “wearing anything which cloaks the facial features of the individual” when taking a driver’s license photo.
It also removes an exemption that would have allowed members of certain religious groups from avoiding having a photo taken altogether because their religion prohibits photographs.
The bill is before the House Transportation and Motor Vehicle Committee. For bill status, call (573) 751-3824.
