3/10/04-A bill that would decrease speed limits at night for all vehicles on highways in the state has died.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Erik Fleming, D-Jackson, failed to pass out of the House Transportation Committee prior to the deadline for House and Senate committees to report out bills and constitutional amendments originating in their chambers.
Under HB156, the Mississippi Transportation Commission could decide which highways should have speeds dropped at night from 70 mph to 65 mph. Highways affected by the proposal would see speeds remain at 70 mph during the day.
