7/21/04-A bill that would have added truck drivers to the state’s workers’ compensation coverage has died.
H1370, sponsored by Rep. Drew Saunders, D-Huntersville, remained in the Senate Committee on Commerce when the session ended July 18. It previously passed the House.
The bill called for classifying a truck driver as an employee or independent contractor and to be subject to workers’ compensation coverage. It would have included any interstate or intrastate driver.
An identical Senate bill – S1081 – met the same fate.
