7/21/04-A bill that would have added truck drivers to the state’s workers’ compensation coverage has died.
S1081, sponsored by Sen. Clark Jenkins, D-Tarboro, remained in the Senate Committee on Commerce when the session ended July 18.
The bill called for classifying a truck driver as an employee or independent contractor and to be subject to workers’ compensation coverage. It would have included any interstate or intrastate driver.
An identical House bill – H1370 – met the same fate.
