4/30/04-A bill intended to protect police and other emergency personnel during roadside stops has died.
LB825, sponsored by Sen. Philip Erdman, I-Bayard, was in the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee when the session ended April 15.
The bill would have required drivers to maintain a safe distance and reduce speed when approaching an emergency vehicle parked by the road with their lights flashing.
It also sought to require drivers to merge into the furthest lane away from an emergency vehicle.
