4/16/04-The Unicameral failed to pass a bill that would raise all fines for speeding but remove the extra penalties for those who speed in road construction areas and school crossing zones. Current law provides a doubling of fines in those areas.
Under LB862, sponsored by Sen. Tom Baker, R-Trenton, people driving 5 mph over the speed limit would pay $20 instead of $10; those driving 20 or more mph over the limit would pay $400 instead of $200.
The bill remained in the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee when the session ended April 15.
