10/12/04-A resolution awaiting consideration before the full Senate calls for the creation of a commission to study and make recommendations concerning rest areas for truck drivers.
Assembly Joint Resolution 81 passed the Senate Transportation Committee in May. It previously passed the Assembly 76-0.
The proposal, offered by Assemblyman John Wisniewski, D-Parlin, would create a 13-member commission to make findings for the best locations of rest areas available to truckers; and makes recommendations for the expansion and improvement of existing rest areas, as well as the location and construction of new rest areas and possible funding sources.
After 18 months, the commission would be required to submit a final report containing its findings and recommendations. At that time, the commission would then dissolve.
