New York

4/29/04-A3839, sponsored by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, D-Brooklyn, would prohibit drivers from dialing a mobile phone.
The bill would be an extension of existing state law making it illegal for a person to use a hand-held cell phone while driving a motor vehicle. However, the law, signed by Gov. George Pataki in 2001, did not include the act of “dialing” in the definition of “using” a mobile phone.
It is in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
