4/29/04-A bill in the Assembly Transportation Committee would authorize the state Department of Transportation to establish a toll-free statewide telephone number for drivers to call and report other drivers who are in violation of the state’s hand-held cell phone ban.
Under A9774, sponsored by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, D-Brooklyn, a first offense would net only a warning for the violator. False reporting of incidents would result in a fine of $200.
