New York

6/9/04-Assembly Republicans announced May 19 a proposal to suspend the state’s sales tax on diesel fuel and gasoline throughout the summer in the state.
The proposal includes authorization for local government to eliminate sales tax as well.
“We’ve got a major problem right now, gas prices in New York State are averaging well over two dollars a gallon and that’s a 25 percent increase from this time last year,” Assemblyman Jeff Brown, R-Manlius, told Syracuse’s News 10 Now.
New York collects 32 cents on every gallon of fuel sold in the state.
