7/16/04-Gov. Bob Taft has signed a bill into law increasing penalties for reckless drivers whose driving in construction zones harms others.
The new law, previously HB52, adds mandatory jail time and increased fines for drivers causing death or injury in marked construction zones and lengthens sentences for aggravated vehicular homicide if the victim is a law enforcement officer or the driver has three previous drunken-driving convictions.
It also includes a provision increasing penalties for firing a gun at a roadway.
The new law took effect June 1.
