6/14/04-A resolution that would have allowed Oklahoma voters to decide whether to redistribute the state’s fuel tax to help fund road repairs has died.
House Joint Resolution 1050 remained in the Senate Finance Committee at the close of the session May 28, effectively killing it for the year. It previously passed the House.
Under the proposal, sponsored by Rep. Jim Newport, R-Ponca City, some of the revenue generated from the diesel fuel and gasoline taxes now going to nonhighway uses would have been given to the highway system.
