7/23/04-A new law that went into effect July 1 shifts all trucking functions of the Oklahoma Tax Commission to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
The new law, previously SB141, was signed by Gov. Brad Henry June 9.
The ‘Trucking One Stop Shop Act’ includes in the move all enforcement officers and IFTA and IRP functions. The move of IFTA and IRP functions will not take effect until July 2005.
The current OTC rules for IFTA and IRP are also transferred. Not included in the transfer are claims arising out of the Tax Commission’s past administration of the IRP program.
The new law includes an increase in fines for overweight violations and for various other offenses related to vehicle registration. It also provides funding to maintain and improve the state’s weigh stations.
