Pennsylvania

11/30/04-A bill that would make all Pennsylvania Turnpike toll increases subject to approval by the General Assembly has died.
HB2343, sponsored by Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Vandergift, remained in the House State Government Committee when the session ended Nov. 21, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill was introduced in response to the Turnpike Commission’s decision earlier this year to increase tolls by about 42 percent effective Aug. 1.
Under current state law, the commission doesn’t need legislative approval to enact toll increases.
A similar bill – HB2404 – met the same fate.
