11/30/04-A bill that would have halted any toll increase by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has died.
HB2404, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Habay, R-Shaler, remained in the House State Government Committee when the session ended Nov. 21, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill was introduced in response to the commission’s decision earlier this year to increase tolls by about 42 percent effective Aug. 1.
Under current state law, the commission doesn’t need legislative approval to enact toll increases.
A similar bill – HB2343 – met the same fate.
