OOIDA Call to Action – Tennessee Members
Jan. 14, 2004
Heads up, Tennessee truckers! Legislation introduced in the state House and Senate Jan. 13 would prohibit big rigs from the left lane on state roadways.
It is vital you contact your state lawmakers and let them know what lane restrictions would mean to road safety.
Under HB2182, sponsored by Rep. Bob Patton, R-Johnson City, and SB2108, sponsored by Sen. Rusty Crowe, R-Johnson City, truck tractors and semi-trailers would be restricted to the right-most lanes of interstate or multi-lane divided highways, except when passing or instructed by emergency personnel. Violators could be subject to a $50 fine.
Both bills are awaiting designation to committee.
Your state representative and senator’s contact information is available at www.legislature.state.tn.us/. For each official, click on the “House” and “Senate” links at left, then on “Members,” and scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the yellow box asking for your home county. You can also call OOIDA’s Membership department at 1-800-444-5791 and they’ll look it up.
