5/27/04-The House version of SB3364 to create a Class C felony offense of identity theft trafficking has been forwarded to Gov. Phil Bredesen.
If signed into law, HB3403 would take effect July 1.
3/30/04-The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would create a Class C felony offense of identity theft trafficking.
SB3364, sponsored by Sen. Jim Bryson, R-Franklin, would declare that a victim of identity theft is also a crime victim, establish a method for law enforcement to obtain records from a public or private entity in cases of identity theft, and establish standards for destruction of records maintained by a private entity that contains personal identifying information concerning a client.
