2/13/04-The House Finance Committee rejected a bill that called for increasing the state’s fuel tax.
HB428, sponsored by Delegate Vivian Watts, D-Annandale, would raise the diesel fuel tax for trucks from 16 cents a gallon to 22.5 cents. Trucks under the International Registration Plan would pay 26 cents a gallon on diesel – up from 19.5 cents.
The gas tax would increase from 17.5 cents a gallon to 24 cents.
The bill included an annual index provision.

1/21/04-A bill in the House Finance Committee would increase the state’s fuel tax by 6.5 cents a gallon.
HB428, sponsored by Del. Vivian Watts, D-Annandale, would raise the Virginia diesel fuel tax for trucks from 16 cents a gallon to 22.5 cents. Trucks under the International Registration Plan would pay 26 cents a gallon on diesel – up from 19.5 cents.

The bill includes an annual index provision “in each taxable year by an amount equal to the percentage change in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Producer Price Index for Highway and Street Construction,” wrote Watts.
