12/16/03-Three legislators plan to introduce a series of bills that would toughen the state’s drunken driving laws.
Delegates Robert F. McDonnell, R-Virginia Beach; David B. Albo, R-Fairfax; and Robert B. Bell, R-Albemarle – all of whom are members of the House Courts of Justice Committee – talked about 15 proposed bills during a news conference Dec. 15 at the Capitol.
The plan would increase penalties for driving drunk, target repeat offenders and change provisions of the state’s law that allow people convicted of drunken drivers avoid current penalties.
Both political parties in the state say they will target drunken driving during the upcoming legislative session that begins Jan. 14.
