4/11/05-The Senate voted 16-11 to reject a bill that sought to use majority rules to determine the speed drivers in Arizona can travel on state roads and freeways.
SB1324, sponsored by Sen. Thayer Verschoor, R-Gilbert, required Arizona’s transportation director to set the speed limit on state highways at what 85 percent of the drivers are traveling at now.
Under the bill, if most drivers were found to be exceeding currently posted speeds, the limit would be raised.
Verschoor’s bill covered multilane interstate highways, as well as all numbered two-lane roads throughout the state.
2/24/05-The Senate Transportation Committee approved a bill Feb. 22 that would require Arizona’s transportation director to set the speed limit on state highways at what 85 percent of the drivers are traveling at now.
The bill, offered by Sen. Thayer Verschoor, R-Gilbert, covers multilane interstate highways, as well as all numbered two-lane roads throughout the state.
