8/29/05-A bill that would have required the Office of Homeland Security to report on methods to improve freight security at the state’s ports has died.
AB1406, sponsored by Assemblywoman Betty Karnette, D-Long Beach, remained in the Senate Appropriations Committee past the Aug. 26 deadline to advance to the full chamber. It can be brought up from where it left off when the 2006 regular legislative session begins.
7/12/05-A bill in the Senate Appropriations Committee would require the Office of Homeland Security to report on methods to improve freight security at the state’s ports.
AB1406, sponsored by Assemblywoman Betty Karnette, D-Long Beach, was amended from requiring OHS to pay for port security.
If approved by the full chamber, it would head back to the Assembly for final approval before moving to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s desk.

6/9/05-The Assembly approved a bill June 1 that would charge a fee on every container that passes through the state’s ports.
AB1406, sponsored by Assemblywoman Betty Karnette, D-Long Beach, would require the Office of Homeland Security to use all the money to pay for efforts to improve freight security.
The bill has been sent to the Senate Committee on Governmental Organization.
