8/29/05-A bill that would have prohibited teen drivers from transporting other teens for the first year they receive their driver’s licenses has died.
SB806, sponsored by Sen. Jackie Speier, D-San Francisco, remained in the Assembly Appropriations Committee past the Aug. 26 deadline to advance to the Assembly floor.
The bill, which previously passed the Senate, can be brought back up when lawmakers convene 2006 regular legislative session.
An amendment that would have required teens applying for permits or provisional licenses to put a “distinguishing placard” in their cars’ back windows had been dropped from the bill while in the Assembly.

6/10/05-The Senate voted 24-12 June 2 to advance a bill that would prohibit teen drivers from transporting other teens for the first year after they receive their driver’s licenses.
Sen. Jackie Speier, D-San Francisco, the bill’s sponsor, has added an amendment to SB806 that would require teens to put a “distinguishing placard” in their cars’ back windows.
