6/7/05-Gov. Bill Owens has vetoed a bill that would have effectively killed a proposed 210-mile private toll road – dubbed the Super Slab – on the plains of the Front Range.
SB230 would have barred private companies from forcing landowners to sell their land to make way for roads.
Owens said in his veto letter to lawmakers that SB230, along with another vetoed bill – HB1342 – are “far too broad and sweeping” in their effort to control how land can be acquired for building private roadways.
“Private investment in Colorado’s transportation infrastructure is needed now more than ever,” he said. The governor said funding for the state Transportation Department next year is expected to be 40 percent below what it was in 2002.

5/3/05-The Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved a bill that would effectively kill a proposed 210-mile private toll road – dubbed the Super Slab – on the plains of the Front Range.
Developer Ray Wells has a plan for a high-speed bypass running north of Fort Collins to the south of Pueblo as an eastern alternative to Interstate 25.
SB230 would strip the power to condemn property from private tolling companies.
Gov. Bill Owens is expected to veto the bill if it reaches his desk.
