5/25/05-A bill that would have required drivers to hang up their cell phones when they fuel up their vehicles has died.
SB510, sponsored by Sen. Andrea Stillman, D-Waterford, remained in the Joint Judiciary Committee past the deadline for bills to advance from the panel.
Under the bill, violators could face a $250 fine.
Warnings already are pasted on fuel pumps informing people that a cell phone in the proximity of a fuel pump could cause an electrical charge that might ignite the pump. However, there are no penalties.
