5/11/05-Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed a bill to eliminate a requirement in state law that a person submit their fingerprints when applying for a driver’s license.
The new law, previously HB577, goes into effect July 1.
It requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to destroy all current fingerprint records that have been acquired since the policy took effect in 1996.
In addition, the new law also tightens security for illegal aliens attempting to get a license, and provides a temporary license for non-U.S. citizens who legally enter the country, which expires the same day their authorization to be in the U.S. expires.

4/14/05-A bill before Gov. Sonny Perdue would eliminate a requirement in state law that a person submit their fingerprints when applying for a driver’s license.
HB577, sponsored by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cartersville, would also call for the destruction of all existing driver’s license fingerprint records.
If approved, it would do away with fingerprinting by July of 2006.
For bill status, call (404) 656-5015.
