5/24/05-Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed a bill giving the Georgia Department of Transportation greater flexibility in using more than $2 billion annually in federal road dollars.
The new law, previously SB4, removes Georgia interstates from the current balancing formula where each of the state’s 13 congressional districts receives an equal amount of road funding.
It allows the highway department discretion over 20 percent of the money.
