4/1/05-A bill has died that would have created an exception to maximum gross weight limits for vehicles hauling crops on noninterstate highways from the point of harvest to the distribution or storage point during the period of harvest from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30 annually.
HF7, sponsored by Rep. Joe Hutter, R-Bettendorf, remained in the House Transportation Committee at the March 9 deadline for bills to pass the House, effectively killing it for the year.
Current law establishes graduated weight limits for vehicles or combinations of vehicles based on the number of axles, with a maximum allowable gross weight of 80,000 pounds.
The bill would have allowed a maximum gross weight of 90,000 pounds, regardless of the number of axles, during the harvest period.
Weight limitations on bridges would not be affected.
