7/13/05-Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a bill into law July 7 to toughen up one of the state’s highway safety laws. The bill previously swept through the Legislature.
The new law, previously HB767, increases penalties for some offenses if committed by a person who is also speeding.
A court is allowed to impose more serious penalties on people who commit reckless homicide or drunken driving when they were traveling more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit when the offense was committed.
The new rule took effect once the governor signed it.

5/24/05-The Senate voted 56-0 May 17 to approve a bill that would increase penalties for some offenses if they were committed by a person who was also speeding.
Under HB767, sponsored by Rep. Jack D. Franks, D-Woodstock, a court could impose more serious penalties on people who commit reckless homicide or drunken driving when they were traveling more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit when the offense was committed.
The bill, which unanimously passed the House earlier in the session, now moves to Gov. Rod Blagojevich for his signature.

3/7/05-The House Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill March 3 that would increase penalties for some offenses committed by a person who was also speeding.
