8/10/05-Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed a bill into law Aug. 8 eliminating the statute of limitations for drivers involved in hit-and-run accidents in the state.
Previously, drivers in Illinois could not be held responsible for there actions three years after the incident.
The new state law, previously HB885, gives investigators and prosecutors all the time they need to find and bring to justice drivers who leave the scene of an accident that results in death, injury or vehicle damage.
It takes effect Jan. 1, 2006.
