7/19/05-Gov. John Baldacci signed a bill into law June 23 creating a pilot program to allow Canadian truckers hauling logs up to 140,000 pounds across the Maine border to mills in Baileyville and New Limerick.
Maine truckers are only allowed to carry loads up to 100,000 pounds.
Under the new rule, previously LD334, $6,000 in funding will be set aside for the first year of the project.
5/12/05-The House has advanced a bill that would create a pilot program to allow Canadian drivers hauling logs to travel 10 miles across the Maine border with loads up to 140,000 pounds.
Currently, Maine truckers are only allowed to carry loads up to 100,000 pounds.
LD334, sponsored by Rep. Henry Joy, R-Crystal, calls for $6,000 in funding for the first year of the project.
It has been sent to the Senate for consideration.
