12/16/05-The Senate Transportation Committee advanced a bill Dec. 13 that would prohibit billboard signs along state roads that involve motion, running animation, or flashing or moving lights.
Part of a three-bill package, SB568, sponsored by Sen. Jud Gilbert, R-Algonac, would make an exception for signs with messages that change a maximum of once every four seconds.
The bill also would require the owners of signs equal to or less than eight feet to pay the annual permit renewal fee of $25. Existing state law doesn’t require a fee for those signs.
The Senate could vote on bill package, which includes SB567 and SB911, next month.
