5/20/05-SF1070, which would permit police to pull over drivers if someone in the vehicle is not buckled up has been incorporated into SF1089.

3/31/05-The Senate Transportation Committee has approved a bill that would permit police to pull over drivers if someone in the vehicle is not buckled up.
Currently, police can issue seat-belt citations to drivers only after stopping a vehicle for another traffic violation.
Sponsored by Sen. Steve Murphy, DFL-Red Wing, the bill also would double the fine for not wearing a seat belt to $50. No points would be assessed against the driver’s license.
SF1070 has been forwarded to the full Senate for consideration. For Senate bill status, call (651) 296-2887.
A similar House bill – 1087 – is in the House Public Safety Policy and Finance Committee.
