Urgent Call to Action Alert - Missouri Members!

The Missouri Senate is scheduled to vote tomorrow, Feb. 9, on SB1, which is the work comp reform bill. Incorporated in SB1 is language from SB130 that "waters down" the definition of owner-operators with regard to the Missouri work comp system.
In essence, the language would exempt all owner-operators from work comp coverage - even lease purchase operators and lease drivers who have no ownership interest in the equipment they operate.
This language is being pushed by a major Missouri carrier, Prime, because it would benefit them!! OOIDA believes this language will open the door to more leasing scams.
The bottom line - and how this affects you directly - is that when a company such as Prime makes its profit off illegal scams and leasing violations, they can afford to cut rates that impact your bottom line and the profitability of all owner-operators. We can't let this continue.
The Missouri Court of Appeals has already determined that Prime's actions (deducting work comp insurance from the settlements of lease purchase operators) are a violation of Missouri work comp law. To get around this ruling, Prime wants to change the work comp law to forgive these past actions. We can't let that happen!
Sen. Matt Bartle, R-Lee's Summit, is introducing an amendment to remove that language and it's important that this amendment pass.
Please call your senator today. Ask him/her to support Sen. Bartle's amendment to SB1, which would remove language regarding owner-operator truckers. If you can't speak to your senator directly, leave a detailed message with his/her staff and ask for a call back. The senator needs to know this legislation is important to you and you need to know where he/she stands on this important issue!
